"It is glorious!"

The bike arrived safely, and it is glorious! It is one of those bikes that immediately feels as if it was just made to fit your body - it is so beautifully balanced and so responsive. It proves the fundamental truth: a human being on a bicycle is the most efficient means of transport ever invented. I love it!

Love it. I suffer from PMR and treated myself Christmas 2011. My agattu arrived secure 3 days later was simple to get ready for the road I regularly do round trips of 10 to 30 miles including Bolton market. Had the lads laughing when i told them i brought home two chickens a duck 5lb of potatoes bag of oranges apples pears not forgetting the selection of cheeses. I have never felt as comfortable and secure whilst cycling and at 60 years old hope to have many more happy years outdoors.

"really fantastic bicycle"
star star star star star
by Glynis Voss from UK on 20 May 2012
I love riding my Agattu which I bought in May and have already recommended to friends. I was worried about the weight when I bought it as I am a very slightly built 60 year old lady but it is so well balanced that I have never felt so safe and stable on a bike before. In fact I rarely rode my old bike in windy conditions for fear of being blown off, but now, I ride in any type of weather. When I ride without the power assistance it is a really fantastic bicycle and the power is a wonderful added bonus.

"Hardly ever use my old bike now"
star star star star star
by J H Drane MBE from Suffolk on 20 Apr 2012
I have recommended the Agattu to many people, I enjoy riding the bike, the only thing I did not like was the saddle, which I have replaced with a Brooks, the other thing that I have had to replace is the sprockets and chain twice, and a new set of tyres and tubes in about 4000 + miles. I have found that a chain lubricant called "Squirt" works very well on the transmission. I am very happy with the bicycle I find that I hardly ever use my old bike now, the agattu runs so well I often cover quite a few miles and dont feel the need to switch the motor on.

I am very pleased with the bike and would certainly recommend it to others. I find riding it most comfortable and it's so easy to ride.I carry a lot of shopping on it & it isn't a problem at all.It has brought the joy back into cycling for me & I feel 30 years younger when on the bike. I am 70 & was beginning to struggle a bit on an ordinary bike. I only wish I had bought it sooner!! Many thanks.

"Wondering whether to get one? Don't hesitate"
star star star star star
by Sophie Lock from Berkswell on 20 Apr 2012
My new Kalkhoff Agattu has exceeded my expections by some way - I needed a robust bike for a 20-mile round trip commute on moderately hilly terrain and was concerned that an e-bike/pedelec wouldn't actually deliver enough assistance up long/steep hills. I needn't have worried. This bike has completely changed my daily commute. It allows me to get to and from work without getting overtired/hot/sweaty but still offers a good level of sustained (and sustainable!), steady exercise. I went for the 8-speed 49 frame and it's good to have the extra gear range and larger frame size for a more secure ride. The commute only takes me 10-15 minutes longer on the Agattu than it did in my car, so that's a great result. Overall, it's a great, tough, easy-to-ride bike that gets you from A to B without the sweat. All pro's and no con's with this bike. It's a 'no-brainer' for those who want to ditch the car and be way more sustainable and fitter. I think if more people realised they could cycle-commute and cope with hilly British terrain, they would buy a pedelec/ebike tomorrow. Getting this bike feels like the best thing I have done in years - no exaggeration. If you're wondering whether to get one, don't hesitate, get the best you can afford and start e-cycling.
"The Agattu C8 has been excellent"
star star star star star
by Malcolm Newton from IOM on 20 Apr 2012
I have had the bike for 2 month and covered 260 miles in that time. I have been looking at ebikes for several years but was uncertain as to how well they would cope with the hills over here on the Isle of Man. I wanted a bike that I could use to commute to work without arriving sweaty. I tried an Ezee ebike for two days, but found it struggled on the steep hill leading up to the College where I work and the motor noise on the hill!!!! The Agattu C8 has been excellent, I was initially very impressed with the build quality and its ability to take all the hills I have thrown at it to date in its stride - and quietly. Even with the hilly terrain, I am getting 24 or more miles between charges. I would definitely recommend the bike to others.

Just thought I would let you know how pleased I am with my Kalkhoff Agattu. It arrived with the snow on 30th November and so it was a while before I could really get out and try it out. However, with the wonderful weather we have had this Spring I have been able to get up and down hills in Cumbria that I could not attempt before. I would be quite happy to sign up to your demonstrator scheme to show other people the benefits of owning a pedelec.

"Worth every penny"
star star star star star
by William from Lincolnshire on 20 Apr 2012

I purchased my Kalkhoff electric bicycle from you last November and I am writing to thank you for what must be the best investment I have made since my retirement five years ago. I am a reasonably robust 72 year old, never been a cyclist or fitness enthusiast but my trusty steed has opened up all sorts of new horizons. Most days I cycle about 15 miles whatever the weather. I am sure the exercise has helped recovery from a recent hip replacement and I am now as "fit as a flea". I live in rural Lincolnshire and thanks to my bike; I am rediscovering fresh air and miles of glorious half-forgotten byways. Cycling purists may pour scorn on my mode of transport but for me it is a brilliant compromise, worth every penny and I have no hesitation in recommending both the Kalkhoff bicycle and 50cycles Ltd of Loughborough.

It arrived the day after we ordered it as promised and we took off immediately to the Yorkshire coast and embarked on a ride up the old coastal railway from Scarborough to Whitby. My wife loves the bike, it means that we can cycle on a more or less equal basis with me on my MTB. It appears that the claims of 50 mile range with normal usage are realistic. Highly recommended.

"I wasn't looking for an electric bike..."
star star star star star
by Kate from Leicestershire on 20 Apr 2012

I wasn't looking for an electric bike initially, my requirements were for a bike which I could cycle to work on (sometimes in a skirt) jump off and be ready to get to my desk! My main requirement was for a more upright cycling position because I suffer with a weak back sometimes (this was being aggravated by my road/mountain bike) and to cut down on my car use. When I saw that your bike fulfilled all of these requirements with the added assistance of battery power I decided to push the boat out and make the purchase. I can say that it has met every requirement, it does not put any strain on the lower back at all; it feels as if there is an angel giving a gentle push and takes the sting out of hills completely. I still feel that I get exercise (oh yes, another of my requirements) because there are three levels of assist so depending on how quick I need to get to work and how much exercise I want, I set it accordingly plus I have cycled every day since I got it rather than the sporadic cycling of before my purchase! Go on push the boat out this is an extremely well built bike, I would say the equivalent in the cycling world of a Merc!
""Why have a car when you can have a Kalkhoff""

by Pam and Tony Burdon from East Yorkshire on 20 Apr 2012

To introduce this review, we should explain that we are both Vicars and bought our Kalkoff Agattus in May 2010. People might be the familiar with the image of a Vicar on a bike with a basket on the front. As you can see from the attached photo, the 2010 Kalkhoff equivalent is a bit different! The wicker basket is replaced by a wire one and the old Raleigh with 3-speed Sturmey Archer gears is replaced with a Kalkhoff Agattu with 8-speed Shimano gears and, of course, the Pedelec electrical assistance! Even without the electrical assistance, these bikes would be superb. As soon as we unwrapped them we could see the quality of the engineering and equipment. They are definitely the most comfortable bikes we have ever ridden. The Selle Royale saddles are brilliant, and we particularly like the ergonomically-designed handlebars which make for a relaxed and comfortable ride. Add to this the smooth-running Shimano gears and all the other built in components and you have a bike which is worth every penny. However, when you add in the benefit of the electrical assistance, these bikes really come into their own. As Vicars we cover 8 rural parishes spread over a large geographical area, and since we've had the Agattus we have found travelling round our parishes a real joy. The bikes just spin along the country lanes, and we must already have saved a huge amount on petrol costs, which also saves the church money. We now think nothing of a 15-mile round trip on the Kalkhoff for a meeting or whatever.. we both feel a lot fitter and between us we've lost a stone in weight! We also live close to the Yorkshire Wolds. Wolds, of course, means hills, and our previous experience of leisure cycling in the Wolds has been toiling uphill and (yes!) getting off to push with Tony waiting for Pam at the top of the hill. Having the Agattus means that we are now able to sail up the hills together, and on occasions Pam has reached the top of the hill first!! These bikes have given us back something we thought might no longer be possible as 63 year olds - the joy and excitement of cycling. As we look forward to retirement in a year or so, we are looking forward to undertaking routes like the Trans-Pennine Trail which we just wouldn't have been able to contemplate at our stage of age and fitness without the Agattus. We've said more than once that these bikes have been one of the best investments we have ever made. We can thoroughly recommend them, and would be pleased to demonstrate the bikes to anyone in the Hull/East Yorkshire area. Thanks also to 50 Cycles for their courteous and efficient service. By the way, the Yakkay helmets are also great.. although we may need to invest in some of their ear-muffs for the winter! All in all, our slogan would be (as per the Land Rover advert) "Why have a car when you can have a Kalkhoff".

I have now had my bike for 3 months and use it most days, I have more or less given up the use of my car as short journeys was all I seemed to be using the car for. The saving is most noticeable. I also have osteoarthritis in one of my knees, and would walk with a painful limp. I was told to cycle but as we have quite strong winds where I live it was quite a painful experience, (but not with an electric bike). Now I walk normally and have much reduced pain. I really look forward to going out on my bike. Best thing I've ever bought.

I first came across these bikes about 18 months ago in an article in the Sunday Times. This bike is fantastic! I received it in August 2009 and it was everything I hoped it would be and I ride it every single day. In fact I am reluctant to use the car now as it is so enjoyable to cycle the Kalhoff. If you are checking out these bikes don't hesitate they are beautifully built, comfortable to ride and completely reliable. All the reviews are accurate as far as I can see. I got my bike shipped very quickly and it was really easy to assemble and have a go immediately. I have had loads of conversations on route with people as they are really interested in the look of this bike as well as how it works. Well done 50 cycles these are brilliant bikes and the extra power really makes cycling much more enjoyable. They ride well with a load of shopping too. I tested it on a hill I had always had to walk up with my old bike and it was really easy to cycle up. Thank you - I am completely converted and look forward to many years of cycling on this bike! They might seem a big outlay financially but I can honestly say they are worth every single penny! The staff are great as well and I wish 50 cycles every success with their business long into the future.
"Should be prescribed on the NHS"
star star star star star
by Maggi B from Cumbria on 20 Apr 2012
I've had my lovely Agattu for just over two weeks and I am absolutely delighted with her. I live halfway up a very steep hill in my village and, having recently had two knee operations which made it difficult if not impossible to get out anywhere without using the car, I have felt like a prisoner. My Agattu has made it possible to be a free woman again - I can literally cycle where I find it difficult and painful to walk. Amazingly I can cycle up my hill, which is 1 in 5 and 1 in 4 at the top! This connects me with the outside world. I am finding that that, even in two weeks, I am getting stronger and able to use less assistance generally. This of course is having a knock on effect on my general recuperation, so I am walking better as a result. This should be prescribed on the NHS! I would seriously recommend that anyone with a similar problem should get one. A lovely smooth ride - even on rough ground and on hills it feels like I have someone pushing me along from behind. Looking forward to some long days out soon, and am so happy to be cycling again, as it's the one exercise I have always enjoyed, and which I didn't think I would be able to do again - thank you Kalkhoff (and 50cycles).

"Kalkhoff eclipses them all"
star star star star star
by John from Milton Keynes on 20 Apr 2012

I have owned a Kalkhoff Agattu since November last year and it's now covered over 900 miles. In my opinion it is the best e-bike currently on the market. Build quality and performance are excellent. Over the last year I have owned and ridden several e-bikes in a quest to find the best including the legendary Giant Lafree Twist Lite, Ezee Torq, Wisper 905se etc., the Kalkhoff eclipses them all. My wife really likes the wave frame and finds it very comfortable, not too dissimilar to her old Giant Lafree. We went to a forest cycle track this morning and the bikes got a lot of attention from the many cyclists there when we stopped at a cafe. So far both bikes get 10 out of 10.
"It is like cycling on the moon"
star star star star star
by Annette from St Andrews on 20 Apr 2012
Since last April I am the proud owner of an Agattu. I am Dutch by birth and it takes a lot of convincing me that a bike is good! This one is not just good, it is BRILLIANT. It is like cycling on the moon. I use it here in Scotland and have tackled several hilly sections on the West coast as well as less hilly and indeed flat and windy roads with the odd incline. Summer came and I took it with me on an extended visit to Holland where electric bikes are big business. Never have I enjoyed my cycling more. Strong head winds are usual in a flat country such as the Netherlands and the Agattu dealt with it NO PROBLEM. I am 63 and have new knees which makes an ordinary bike (of which I have 2) more of a struggle. Not now. I have bought typical Dutch paraphernalia to make my bike a workhorse also. Canvas panniers into which a great deal of shopping can be put, and a wire basket on the handle bars into which I can sling any odd and sods such as handbag and a very solid extra lock. Thank you Tim for letting me try yours when I met up with you whilst visiting son in London and thanks to patient staff in the workshop in guiding me through adjusting handlebars and saddle which by the way is THE most comfortable I have ever had! People in Holland admired the bike greatly for its looks and weight. A compliment in itself considering how many there are on the market over there. I would recommend this bike to anyone and indeed we shall get one for my husband too as he cannot keep up with me now.
"Absolutely brilliant and completely exceeds our expectations"
star star star star star
by Ron from Kent on 20 Apr 2012
The bike is absolutely brilliant and completely exceeds our expectations. The excellent combination of 7 (non-derailleur) gears and the low/med/high power options combined with the obvious quality of workmanship make this bike a pleasure to ride. Yvonne, my wife, who is very limited in the amount of effort she can expend, is delighted that it does everything she wanted and she can get her exercise, confident that the Kalkhoff will get her home despite headwinds and hills.
"Hills, headwinds, heavy shopping.....bring it on!"
star star star star star
by Kate from Hampshire on 20 Apr 2012
I have had my Kalkoff Agattu about two weeks now and I must let you know how pleased I am with it. It was so easy to adjust to me and my riding style - no more than 5 minutes, and the quality is unbelievable. All the little added extras - the automatic lights, the angled brakes so that they don't squeak, the suspension, the lock, the Shimano this and the Shimano that... fabulous. It is so comfy and rides like a dream, and even with the battery switched off it is at least as easy to ride, if not more so, than my expensive mountain bike on the road. But with it switched on, there is no exaggeration in the fact that you really do feel bionic! Amazing. Hills, headwinds, heavy shopping.....bring it on! I am thrilled and it will save me so much money on fuel this summer. We have Ecotricity at home, so I don't have to feel guilty about using electricity to charge it up. A fabulous investment, thank you so much! Good luck to you and your business - I hope you sell thousands of these bikes - they really are the future in sustainable transport, and every bit as good as the reviews on your website.
"Go on, you know you want to!"
star star star star star
by Karon from Loughborough on 20 Apr 2012
After visiting your new site at Loughborough, and tentatively trying out the Kalkhoff Agattu, We bought one about a month or so ago. Considering that this bike was for a lady of a certain age (ok, 50 - but whose counting!) who had never owned a pedal bike in her life, this was a huge undertaking. I had tried other assisted bikes (some of which were so heavy I couldn't turn them, and sounded like a wounded moped on speed) it was obvious that the Kalkhoff was the one that offered the best facilities. Those that I looked for were that the bike should NOT drive itself, I mean, I needed the exercise! And at the same time would be helpful when the going was a little rough. It also had to actually look like a normal bike, so I didn't feel such a dork on the road! Well, so far I have been out and about (admittedly just in the village) but am gaining confidence with each outing. The fact that you were quite happy to adjust possibly every part of the bike that was adjustable in order to make me feel more comfortable, and also didn't laugh or get arsey due to the amount of time I was taking to decide whether I could ride, and especially ride that particular bike, with comfort. Anyways, this is just to let you know that things are going swimmingly, and I am still quite amazed that an amateur cyclist, with no previous experience, can at the age of 50, start a whole new hobby and actually be enjoying it. I hope this will encourage others to take the plunge - go on, you know you want to!!

I love this bike. I ordered it last Saturday morning and it arrived as arranged on Thursday. Great to know that free delivery to UK really means UK and includes Northern Ireland. I have not cycled in the past 20 years. In that time I have experienced significant health problems. I have breathing difficulties which makes it hard to exercise. After years of hopping in the car for even short journeys, the strength in my legs is pretty poor. Today, however, I cycled for a mile up quite a hill with ease. It was so wonderful to feel the wind in my face and still be able to get off the bike without my legs buckling under me.If you are wondering if you are too unfit to handle a bike like this I would say take your courage and credit card in hand and commit. The Aggattu means that I don't need to be constrained by my physical limitations.

I only ride to get from A to B, and when cycling isn't feasible I use public transport; but now I can often use the bike instead of the bus - travelling by a pleasanter route, at a time of my own choosing. And I love to imagine what on-lookers think of an ageing woman pedalling cheerfully up a steep hill! I have already recommended it to several friends.

I have had my bike for 5 months now and I love it. Cycling has once again become my favourite exercise. My gym membership is cancelled and I don't miss it. Exercising in fresh air is miles better. I need to keep fit as I had my hips replaced at the age of 42 and I want them to last a long time! The battery allows me to exercise safely and I rarely use the maximum power level.

I would definitely recommend one to a friend. The initial outlay is considerable but savings in gym fees and petrol are starting to add up now.
I cycle often around the new Guild Wheel in Preston and really enjoy my workout, even when it rains, which it has, often! All in all, a great purchase.

The commute only takes me 10 to 15 minutes longer on the Agattu than it did in my car, so that's a great result. Overall, it's a great, tough, easy-to-ride bike that gets you from A to B without the sweat. All pros and no cons with this bike.

This is my second Kalkhoff...previously had Pro Connect for 3 trouble free years. I am retired and not particularly fit and given the hilly countryside in which I live I would probably not be a cyclist if it was not for electric bikes. The Agattu Impulse has had its original software updated and it is an excellent all rounder ,very comfortable to ride with a fantastic range and lots of power when climbing hills.

The build quality is faultless and whilst it may be considered relatively expensive you really do get what you pay for. If anyone is considering buying an electric bike I recommend they have a test ride on a new Kalkhoff Impulse.

Fantastic! We live at the top of a massive hill. Cycling has always been a no no! Our Agattu (we have one each) has changed all that! We cycle at least once a week often more into Brighton along the prom . . . a round trip of 10 miles. Both panniers full of shopping, no problem and a pleasure to do, we don't use our bus passes rather use our trusty bikes with many admirers and questions!
