Description

The Agattu has been a best seller for many years.

The perfect all-round electric bike returns with more power, improved controls, longer range and better performance. Hills, tracks, trails and national parks handle just as well as cycle paths, busy roads and parks in the city. It's powered by the Impulse 2.0 centre motor and a 36 volt 17Ah battery that gives up to 125 miles range. It's superbly well-equipped with Magura hydraulic brakes, front and rear lights, new illuminated handlebar controls, puncture-resistant tyres, integrated mudguards and suspension.

Kalkhoff Impulse 2.0 Providing an enormous 70Nm torque and working with the gear shifter to provide seamless transmission it's the most capable crank drive unit around. Kalkhoff have engineered a more powerful, efficient, quieter motor that supplies massive assistance from a standing start and cuts all hills down to size.

Climb Assist is another clever feature Kalkhoff's engineers have baked into Impulse 2.2  maintains assistance even after the hill starts to level out as you reach the top. It's a nice touch that makes for happier hill-climbing and unique to Kalkhoff.

Shift Assist A genuine innovation - every time you change up or down a gear, power drops away for a matter of milliseconds for optimal gear shifting. This does a number of great things - it extends your gears mechanical lifetime, feels satisfyingly natural and makes for a smoother application of all that power. They had to invent a little electromechanical gadget to detect gear changes that worked with the motor. They succeeded and the result brings a new feeling of confident power to riding a Kalkhoff electric bike.

Carbon Belt Drive If you've bought a bicycle in the past 120 years, chances are it’s been powered by a chain. While the trusty bicycle chain has done every cyclist well, now the Gates Belt Drive is stronger, quieter and requires less maintenance. It’s grease-free, oil-free and hassle-free. It won’t leave any marks on your pants and you’ll never have to pull over to fix a dropped chain. The belts are one continuous loop – an inner carbon fiber tensile cord layered with polyurethane teeth and a nylon outer coating. Belts will not rust. This means that you do not need to worry about riding in the rain, or leaving your bike outside. Unlike chains, there is no need for lubrication and on average they last 3 – 4 times longer than a conventional bike chain.

Magura hydraulic brakes The piston design makes braking easy, well-modulated and reliable over time. There are no cables to stretch, the whole surface of the brake pad is applied to the rim (protecting both), pads last for ages and braking is strong and sure-footed. Looks cool too, with strong arch and neat braking assembly tucked against the forks.

Front and rear lights Powered by a free-running Shimano hub dynamo, the lights on this and all Kalkhoffs are excellent. Few bikes on sale in the UK benefit from front and rear illumination of this quality and utility.  Not only that, the rear lamp with remain lit for several minutes at standstill, for added visibility when waiting at lights or junctions.

The front lamp casts 80 lux of cool, bright LED light forward, enough to make night rides across the park something to enjoy rather than endure.

Other winning features

  • Multifunction LCD console - Speed, Charge, Assistance Level, Total Miles, Trip Miles
  • Handlebar-mounted control - illuminated with Walk Assist button, on/off, power controls and options.
  • Magnesium alloy forks
  • High-end Nexus 8-speed gears
  • 612 Wh Lithium tri-metal battery
  • 1100 cycle battery lifetime, more than twice that of the Bosch battery. So 50% extra capacity and 120% extra lifespan.
  • Schwalbe Marathon Puncture-Resistant Tyres

Perfect for my commute

by from North Yorkshire on

I have wanted to commute on a bike to work for years but although it's only 4.5 miles, it's very hilly. i did try some years ago on a conventional bike and it was just not feasible regularly. I arrived covered in sweat needing a shower and a change of clothes. As a female - this was just too hard!

I've been hearing about electric bikes for a few years but didn't really know what was out there, but at Christmas my husband said maybe we should start looking. My first search turned up Kalkoff's and from there I was convinced this would be the bike for me. Seeing people talking about biking in the Lake District reassured me that there would be enough power for the Yorkshire Dales.

After a trip to Loughborough where the staff were hugely helpful without putting any pressure on us, we ordered the Agattu, and it arrived the very next day. What can I say that hasn't been said by others? I LOVE my bike!! I have been riding it now for two weeks back and forth, and being able to use it as transportation is the greatest thing in the world. I jumped on it the first day and made it to work without a problem (being in pretty terrible shape!).

As the days go by I can already see that I'm using the 'power' setting less and getting in better shape. Instead of it being a long hard slog - it's a pleasure and I wake up every day excited about my ride into work. What took me 10 minutes in the car is only 20 minutes on the bike - and this is in no way pushing to get there quickly. While it's great exercise - I'm certainly working hard enough - I am not having to kill myself and can go to work in the clothes I'll wear for the day. My only regret - like others - is that I didn't get this years ago. It's simply superb!!

We have cycled on far more occasions than we ever did before

by from Chesterfield on

Hi, we bought 2 Agattu Premium Impulse 8 bikes a year ago and have loved them. We have done trips of over 40 miles several times, mainly on trails, with ease. Last week I rode to the coast on mine, on road all the way, taking my wife's battery with me as well. Even after a years use, my battery took me 62 miles before I had to swap them. I completed 73 miles with ease. Not bad for a 62 year old! We would both recommend Kalkhoff bikes, they have been both reliable and comfortable. They take the pain out of cycling and we have cycled on far more occasions than we ever did before. Thank you, David.

The best buy I ever made

by from Halesworth, Suffolk, UK on

I bought my Agattu Premium Impulse 8 in early April 2015. I am 77 years old and I have never been able to take any form of exercise purely for the sake of fitness - it has to be fun! This bike gives me the most comfortable and enjoyable ride I have ever experienced. It has opened up a wide area of beautiful countryside for me to explore and brought friends within easy reach. It is no exaggeration to say it has transformed my life. This is a top quality machine, built to last. I had some minor issues and queries soon after delivery, but these were sorted out quickly by friendly and efficient staff at 50 Cycles.

Great!

by from Berkshire on

I bought this bike in October and I have become a big fan! I use it to replace the car as much as possible. Hills and wind are not a problem anymore, what s delight!....As mentioned in an previous email , I finish my ride not sweaty and so happy to have been outside. It is heavy but when you are on it , you do not feel the weight anymore and it is an absolute pleasure to cycle.

We are very lucky with the network of cycle paths close to where I live i must say and it allows me to make the most of it. I have to be honest and say that I use it in 'power' mode most of the time as I find the 'sport' and 'eco' modes a bit slow when I compare it with my normal touring bike which I have used quite a lot but this is my personal feeling. I do not regret having bought this bike at all. It will motivate me to use the car less and save on petrol, still exercise and be outside. Let' s hope that in the long run , they become affordable to more people so we can all enjoy cycling and do our good for the planet.

Easy up the hills

by from Bristol on

The bike: Having purchased a Kalkhoff Aguttu at the beginning of September 2015 for my wife, I have just collected another Aguttu for myself but through the cycle2work scheme. I have looked and test rode various pedlectric cycles both here and during a 3 week holiday in France. This included both Yamaha & Bosch drive units but I found a noticeable difference with the Kalkhoff Impulse drive (sounds very Star trek) I find the gear change "snicks" quietly in place & is very smooth the bike feels solid & well finished.

The Kalkhoff ebikes are by no means cheap, but realistically quality never is. The fact that I have bought two bikes reflects the confidence I have in the bikes, I could have bought cheaper bikes but once I had my test ride I knew I would have regretted any decision not to have gone with the Kalkhoff.

The staff: Both of my purchases were handed by Anthony (store manager Bristol branch) right from my initial visit to look at, and test ride the bikes I felt at ease & no pressure was put on me to buy, in fact I was asked about what I thought the main use of the bike would be & Anthony explained the difference between the bike range.

Once I narrowed my choice down I was offered a test ride, this was not a quick ride around the block but almost an hour long and included a ride up Park St (which is pretty steep) Throughout the time from ordering through to my collection of the bikes I was kept updated by Anthony about progress, I can't fault the service I have received from the Bristol shop.

My advice to anyone who is thinking of purchasing a pedlectric bike is get yourself down to 50Cycles and test ride one and if you have tried others you will feel the Kalkhoff difference. Oh and when riding you will find yourself smiling a lot!
