'For those not keen to ditch their petrol-powered four wheeler, there is another electric alternative. The Ego Street Scoota went on sale in Britain last week at £1,000. This electric scooter has a (restricted) top speed of 30mph and a maximum range of 40 miles and is exempt from road tax and the congestion charge. You charge it up from the mains.
Twist the throttle and progress is swift up to 25mph. At 30mph, though, it holds steady, is comfortable and handles as well as any other scooter on the market.'

How do you fancy zipping around town tax free, without paying congestion charges, using bus lanes like your own private motorway and coughing up just a quarter of a penny for each mile? No, we’re not making it up - it’s all possible with Ego Electric's ultra-cheap electric scooter.

The benefits are obvious. A few hours charge returns 40 miles. It's pretty nippy too: around 30 mph. So it's ideal for scooting around the city.

It's quiet, accelerates smoothly and is surprisingly light. At this price I expect to see a lot more on the road soon.
