2019 BH Evo City Pro: Powerful replacement for the Kalkhoff Pro Connect

BH Evo City Pro Electric Bike from 50cycles
BH Evo City Pro

We followed up our BH Evo Jet hill climb video with this tour of the excellent new BH Evo City Pro.

It’s similar to the Jet but with a larger battery capacity (meaning longer range) and it’s fully equipped for a touring and commuting role.

BH Evo City Pro – the new Kalkhoff Pro Connect?

This BH model caught our attention immediately. It’s very similar to our best-selling Kalkhoff Pro Connect model, which we offered 2008-2018, selling several thousand in the UK.

If anything though, the City Pro has even greater potential. It’s definitely more powerful and more elegant because (unlike the Kalkhoff Pro Connect) it tucks the 600Wh battery into the frame.

2019 BH Evo Jet E-Bike Hill Climb in Richmond Park, London

The first thing we do when a new e-bike arrives is take it for a test ride up a nice big hill. There’s no better way to get a sense of an electric bike’s potential than cycling straight for places other cyclists fear to pedal.

One such place is Broomfield Hill in Richmond Park, London. We’ve been testing bikes on this climb for years. Kalkhoff, Oxygen, Haibike, Focus e-bikes have all had their first UK outings there.

It’s a good spot because it’s popular with other cyclists (especially at weekends), it’s relatively free of motor traffic and it’s easy to film. About 50 yards further East there’s an off-road track that’s handy for test rides too.

We took the new BH Evo Jet on both of them last Sunday and were thrilled by the results. The BH Evo E-Bikes are the first we’ve had that pack a 48 volt motor and battery as standard. Continue reading “2019 BH Evo Jet E-Bike Hill Climb in Richmond Park, London”

Electric bikes for Deliveroo riders

Electric bikes have the power to make a real difference for the nation’s delivery riders. We caught up with a very busy Deliveroo rider recently to see how it’s helped. He’s now making more money than ever because he’s able to deliver more orders, more quickly without wearing himself out on his shift.

Pick the right e-bike for deliveries

Not all e-bikes are up to the job though. A very large battery capacity is essential to keep going through the day and night. Riders also require strong assistance that can take on steep hills, heavy loads and stiff headwinds. The bike also needs to be tough enough to carry extra weight and dependable because the rider’s livelihood depends on it working well.

We’ve trawled Deliveroo rider forums and it sounds like it can be a tough job most of the time. They’re against the clock, they have to deliver whatever the weather conditions and pedalling uphills and stopping and starting at crossings and junctions really takes it out of them. Riding an electric bike on a shift has the potential to iron out these problems and make it a fun and profitable job.

E-Bikes help you make money, save your time & energy

Yes, the initial outlay on an electric bike is significant, but the gains soon outweigh the cost for riders who are smart enough to invest in one.

Jimmy, our Youtube star, rides a BESV TRB1  e-bike which he’s found to be ideal for the job – it’s fast, robust and comes with the largest single-battery capacity of any bike we’ve ever stocked, at 756Wh. Which means mileages well into the 50-mile range. That should cover even the busiest of shifts, whatever the terrain.

We have other bikes that are good for this work but none quite matches the TRB1 for power, speed, strength and stealthiness. Well-equipped too with decent front and rear lights, air-sprung forks, a luggage rack and fat tyres.

We only have a very limited number available between now and Spring 2019 and we can offer all Uber Eats, Deliveroo riders, etc £1,000 off the RRP £3995 – we want these bikes out on the road, making you money and earning good reviews.

Call Mark on 01509 278393, contact us online or request a free callback to learn more about this game-changing e-bike today.

Save up to 42% on your electric bike with Green Commute Initiative cycle to work scheme

Electric bikes are incredibly useful but they are often more expensive than traditional pedal cycles. Fortunately, help is at hand from the Government-backed cycle to work scheme, via the Green Commute Initiative.

It helps reduce and spread the cost of electric bike ownership. You’ll save of up to 42% if you’re higher-rate earner!

Cycle to Work Schemes for Electric Bikes

Cycle to work schemes have been running for years but most place a limit of £1,000 on the electric bike you can buy.

It is possible to pick up a new e-bike for £1,000 (or less) but it probably won’t be up to the task of transporting you to and from work every day. Bikes get a lot of wear and tear and some types of electric bikes are more resilient, more reliable and more comfortable than others. Cheaper electric bikes can sometimes look a little weird too.

The best electric bikes are reliable, quiet and hide their battery and motor very well – the casual observer might not even spot that your e-bike IS electrically-assisted.

Extra help from Green Commute Initiative

So what if your heart is set on an electric bike that costs more than the £1,000 cycle to work scheme ceiling?

Brose Drive S Mag – the best electric bike motor yet?

Brose Drive S Mag runs away with 2019 Best in Test Title

(and also wins a prestigious Design & Innovation award)

At the heart of every e-bike is its motor. There are now dozens to choose from but a small number of brands dominate.

Bosch has long provided motors for most reputable brands – Cube, Scott, Kalkhoff, Riese & Müller, Moustache, the list goes on. Their top-of-the-range Performance Line CX motor is fitted to several hundred thousand commuting, touring and mountain bikes. So they’ve enjoyed market domination for quite some time.

Shimano arrived late at the e-bike motor party but has claimed some of the market. It helps that their motors work well with Shimano gears that are found on 9 out of 10 bicycles.

There are dozens of also-ran motor systems these days. Some have won a reputation for reliability, others for sheer power. A sorry few for giving their owners and suppliers a lot of problems.

The best electric bike motors in 2019

But now it’s 2019 and a new cast of really, really good e-bike motors is here. Bosch is still in the running, as is Shimano, Panasonic and Yamaha. A relative newcomer out of Berlin, Brose, is now making a lot of noise (although their motors happen to be the quietest of all). BH Evo Electric Bikes – Exceedingly Powerful E-bikes

Introducing BH Evo Electric Bikes

We know what most people want from an electric bike is plenty of power. It’s the power to flatten hills, cut through headwinds and make hauling heavy loads easy that appeals. And it’s the power that brings you back for more and longer rides.

Power is especially important in some areas. To feel confident when navigating through busy streets at rush hour, you need as much as possible. The ability to rapidly increase your speed when crossing a junction really sets electric bikes apart from pedal cycles. Once you’ve tried it, you wouldn’t want to ride in traffic without electric assistance. It makes that much difference to your ride.
