The Impulse 2.2 centre motor provides an enormous 70Nm torque and working with the gear shifter to provide seamless transmission it's the most capable crank drive unit around. Kalkhoff has engineered a more powerful, efficient, quieter motor that supplies massive assistance from a standing start and cuts all hills down to size.
This is another clever feature Kalkhoff's engineers have baked into Impulse 2.0. The motor uses a torque sensor (which measures how hard you're pedalling) to decide how much power assistance to give you. However, if it's too sensitive you could find yourself left without power as you ease off on pedalling when reaching the top of a hill, making it feel more like hard work as you get to the top. It's a nice touch that makes for happier hill-climbing and unique to Kalkhoff.

Impulse 17ah Battery
Battery: A 36 volt 17Ah battery elegantly placed behind the tube, this incredible high-performance battery technology with 50 cells has the capacity of 612 Wh, under ideal conditions power reserves, give a range of up to 125 miles.
Kalkhoff's Impulse batteries are the most advanced of any electric bike with two major technological advantages. First, the electronics inside the battery go to sleep when not in use, preventing the battery discharging in storage, which can irreparably damage other batteries. Secondly, the cells inside can be charged up to 1,100 times before capacity is reduced by 40%. This means 60% of battery capacity should remain, years later, enough to complete your usual daily trips on a bicycle.
The Impulse battery can be charged on the bike or when removed. The charger comes fitted with a UK 3-pin plug which can be removed to reveal a 2-pin Euro plug if you need to charge up abroad.
