Shimano STEPS E8000

Drive: Powerful SHIMANO STEPS motor is strong enough to handle the steepest of trails, yet intuitive enough to give you just the right amount of support every pedal stroke along the way.

Designed specifically to give you that natural feel of riding a normal MTB.

On paper, the E8000 STEPS system is a match for anything out there. The motor puts out a maximum of 250W of power and a peak of 70Nm of torque, while the battery is a 500Wh Lithium Ion design that’s mounted to the frame, though Shimano is working with manufacturers to develop integrated designs.

There are three assistance modes: Eco, Trail and Boost, with the latter giving a maximum of 300% assistance. You also get a walk-assist function to help deal with the mass on the machine when you’re off it.

Thanks to the E-Tube interface, you can adjust any number of settings in the system should you wish to via a Bluetooth connection. As you’d expect, it’s fully compatible with Di2 gearing and when used like that the derailleur takes its power from the main battery.

Shimano-Steps Display

Display: The new e-MTB control switch for intuitive operation has an ergonomic switch position especially developed for MTB. The new color display comes in a compact size and is nicely integrated on the handlebar. It provides all the relevant data required during the ride.

While the display features full connectivity with Shimano Di2 components it also allows for individual settings for the available information. The switch has been redesigned specifically for mountain bikes. Thanks to the ergonomic design improvements, the switch is now better integrated and offers a similar feel to a gear shifter.

In the Power Walk mode, motor assist is available while pushing the bike. You can wirelessly program it with your smartphone and tablet via E-tube.

Lockout:Twinlock offers simultaneous control of rear shock travel and fork lockout. The open position allows full travel, front and rear. One click switches the rear shock to Traction mode, while the fork remains fully active. Click again and rear shock and fork lock at the same time. No other bike in the world offers this user-friendly system. Found on the Spark & Genius and Genius LT models. Only available for Nude2 shocks on 2013 or previous year models.
